MIZIKADOM

This is the name given to an ambitious project whose mission is to share the richness of Caribbean music and its history.

The founder of the concept, Christophe JEAN-FRANCOIS, a versatile musician and composer, offers a unique educational and cultural immersion into the music of the French West Indies, the Caribbean and, more generally, the overseas islands for this new season.

Originally from Guadeloupe, a French department nestled in the heart of the Caribbean basin, he is naturally driven by a desire to promote his heritage. He is also motivated by a desire to explore in depth the diversity of Caribbean musical culture, which he believes to be a source of untold riches.

The starting point would be the discovery of Gwoka, a musical genre emblematic of Guadeloupe, recognised by UNESCO as part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. In its combined forms of cultural and artistic expression, combining music, song and dance, Gwoka is indeed a vibrant reflection of Guadeloupean identity. It is also a major component of Zouk.

The journey doesn’t end there! Christophe JEAN-FRANCOIS also explores the influence of music from neighbouring English- and Spanish-speaking islands (Soca, Reggae, Bachata, Salsa, Kompa).

All these musical trends contribute to enriching the diversity of sound and culture in France.

This masterclass-style event is open to anyone who wants to discover new musical horizons.
